What is AI Deepfake?

Updated: May 22, 2023

Deepfake is a new type of media manipulation aided by artificial intelligence, which is created by combining and altering two different images or videos.

Deepfake has been used to create fake celebrity porn videos and to make people say things they never said. The most popular use case of deepfake is the one that involves politics.

It can be used to make people say something they never said before, or even show them in a compromising position on video without them knowing it.

The term deepfake was coined by media theorist David Doubilet and is derived from deep learning.

Deepfakes are created with a machine-learning algorithm that takes one image as input and produces a fake video or photo of another person.

The generated content can be the result of the target's facial expression or body language, or just some basic changes in their clothing.

The technology has been used in porn, but has also been applied to politically sensitive videos.

According to the EFF, it can be hard to know whether something is generated or not, and creators should not have to be responsible for ensuring that their content is suitable for all audiences.
